Frequently Asked Questions

Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

What are Anti- Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle Injections contain Botulinum Toxin – some brands are BoCoture, Botox and Azzalure. The Botulinum Toxin injections are administered to specific areas of the face to relax the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles. This in turn makes the skin smoother. These injections can also be used for other purposes such as to lift the eyebrows, reduce excessive sweating or to help debulk the masseter muscle (chewing muscle).

Is the treatment painful?

There is minimal pain as the needles are very fine and the procedure is quick. If you are concerned about pain we can use a numbing cream applied 15mins prior to treatment.

Is the treatment safe?

Botulinum Toxin is a prescription only treatment used extensively in the healthcare industry. It is considered to be extremely safe when used by a trained professional. The risk of an allergic reaction is very low and a professional will always have an emergency kit to hand and will be up to date with their basic life support and anaphylaxis training.

Who can administer Anti-wrinkle injections?

Botulinum Toxin (Botox, BoCoture) is a prescription only medication. It should only be prescribed and administered by a trained medical professional ensuring that a thorough history has been taken.

Why should I have Anti-wrinkle injections with Dr Logan?

Dr Logan is a trained professional with 16 years experience working as a doctor. She will never take shortcuts or risks. Dr Logan only sources products from reputable pharmacies.

How long do the injections last?

Typically the injections will last 3-4 months, this can vary widely as can the dose needed to treat a specific muscle group. A top up can be given 2 weeks after the initial treatment free of charge if needed. You must wait at least 12 weeks between injection treatments.

When will I see results?

The full effect should be clear at 2 weeks after the treatment. We offer a free review and top up if needed.

Jawline slimming and Neck Lift treatments may take up to 4 weeks to see the results.

What 'areas' can I have Anti-Wrinkle injections?

The injections are offered in one, two or three 'areas.' These include

  • Forehead Lines
  • Frown Lines
  • Crow's feet around the eyes
  • Bunny Lines on the nose
  • Gummy Smile treatment
  • Downturned Smile treatment
  • Chin - for dimpling

What else are Anti-wrinkle injections used for?

  • Neck Lift - Nefertitti Neck Lift
  • Excessive sweating – only to be used for this indication with medical guidance and necessity after trying other options
  • Jawline slimming (Masseter reduction) – If the chewing muscles have become larger than usual on the sides of the cheek the injections can weaken them and with time and multiple treatments reduce the size of this muscle. This treatment can also sometimes help with teeth grinding or Bruxism.

What are the Smile treatments?

  • Gummy smile treatment – to weaken the top lip muscle during smiling so that the gums do not show as much
  • Down turned smile treatment – to weaken the muscles pulling the sides of the lips down
  • Bunny Lines - The lines either side of the nose can be relaxed

How many 'areas' do I need?

This is based on your preference and budget. Dr Logan can advise you further.

The most popular treatment is for three 'areas' including frown, forehead and crow's feet. This is because they balance each other out, relaxing the forehead while also opening the eyes.

The pricing is based on the number of areas treated and all areas can be done independently apart from forehead lines which would give a very exaggerated frown if treated in isolation.

Can I have the treatment while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No.

What are the side effects of Anti-Wrinkle Treatments?

Common side effects include:

  • mild swelling at injection sites
  • mild bruising at injection sites
  • mild tenderness at the injection site
  • headache
  • feeling of heaviness

The injections have been used for over 30 years in Aesthetics and are considered to be very safe and effective when administered by a highly trained medical doctor.

Do you offer any other Anti-Wrinkle treatments?

Dermal Filler

What are Demal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are made primarily of Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural substance and works to hydrate plump up the skin. Dermal Fillers come in different densities ranging from thin filler, used to smooth out fine lines, to thicker fillers which can sculpt jawlines and noses.

As we age fat pads and bone under the skin loose a significant amount of volume. This results in sagging of the overlying skin. Dermal fillers replace volume loss, smoothing out the skin and resulting in a younger, fresher look.

What Treatments can be done with Dermal Filler?

Lips - Dermal Fillers can be used to increase the volume and hydrate the lips.

Nose (Non- Surgical Rhinoplasty)- Dermal Fillers can be used to shape the bridge of the nose to make it appear straighter or to increase the volume in the tip of the nose.

Facial Lines - Most commonly treated are Marionette Lines which are either side of the mouth down to the chin and Naso- labial Lines which run from the nose to the lips.

Tear Trough - The under eye area can be filled to reduce the appearance of sunken eyes.

Chin - Dermal filler can be used to sculpt and change the shape of the chin. This can make it larger or more protruding or it can change the shape to be more masculine or feminine.

Jawline - Dermal Filler can be used to define and shape the jawline.

Cheeks - Dermal Filler can be used to sculpt and shape the cheeks lifting the skin of the face which can have the added bonus of smoothing out the facial lines.

How are Facial Lines Treated with Dermal Filler?

Most commonly treated are Marionette Lines and Naso- labial Lines. A hydrating Dermal Filler is used to plump up the skin under the lines to smooth them out in a subtle and natural looking way.

What is a Non Surgical Rhinoplasty

Demal filler treatment to straighten and re-shape the nose.

For the non-surgical rhinoplasty, you must not wear any glasses for a minimum of 48 hours after treatment, preferably for 5 days after treatment.

When will I see results?

The results of Dermal Fillers can be seen immediately after your treatment. During the following 48hrs there will be increased swelling which will then settle down again. The way that you look at the end of the treatment is a good indication of what the final result will be.

How long will the results last?

Fillers are not permanent. How long they last depends on things like the type of filler and where it's injected. They usually last between 6 and 18 months

Is the treatment painful?

Dermal fillers are administered with a needle and sometimes with a blunt canula. This can cause some pain and we will apply a numbing cream to the face before the procedure. Most dermal filler products contain a numbing agent so your face will feel numb for some time after. It is common to have some swelling and pain after the procedure.

What are the Risks and Side Effects of Dermal Fillers?

Common

  • Swelling
  • Pain
  • Bruising

this should settle within a few days but some bruising can last up to a couple of weeks.

Rare

  • infection
  • a lumpy appearance under the skin, which might need to be treated with surgery or medicine
  • the filler moving away from the intended treatment area, which may need to be removed using surgery
  • scarring
  • blocked blood vessels in the face, which can cause tissue death and permanent blindness

Can I have Dermal Fillers if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

No.

What should I do after I have Dermal Filler?

  • Regular application of Arnica cream may be helpful for bruising.
  • Drink plenty of water after treatment to keep well hydrated.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours.
  • Avoid medications such as aspirin or Ibuprofen for 24 hours as they are blood thinning agents and may worsen bruising (if these medications have been advised by your GP you must check with your GP before stopping them).
  • Avoid any excess sun exposure, extremes of hot/cold, saunas, swimming or strenuous exercise until the redness and swelling has settled.

If you experience pain or notice any unexpected skin changes or increasing redness heat and swelling in the skin you must contact us as soon as possible
