Why Would a GP Want to Start Doing Medical Aesthetics?

As a General Practitioner (GP), my passion for helping others has always been the driving force behind my career. I love meeting new patients, learning about their lives, and being able to assist them in maintaining and improving their health. However, the demands of working as a full-time GP can be incredibly stressful, and over time, I began to feel the weight of this stress affecting my well-being.

A few years ago in 2016, I faced a significant personal challenge: I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This experience profoundly changed my perspective on life. It taught me that life is precious and meant to be lived in a way that brings joy and fulfilment every day. Reducing stress and finding happiness in my daily routine was essential for my physical and mental well-being.

I decided to explore medical aesthetics as a complementary practice to my GP work. Initially, I was curious about the creative and practical aspects of aesthetic treatments, but as I delved deeper, I discovered how rewarding and impactful this field could be. Despite the common perception that aesthetic work is superficial and even unethical, I have found it to be quite the opposite.

Through my work in medical aesthetics, I have seen firsthand how these treatments can significantly enhance a person’s confidence and self-esteem. When individuals look in the mirror and feel pleased with their appearance, it can be life-changing. It gives them the confidence to step out into the world without makeup, embrace social interactions, and live their lives more fully.

I am particularly inspired to help those who have experienced rapid changes in their appearance due to menopause or significant weight loss. These transitions can be challenging, and restoring a more youthful appearance can help individuals regain their confidence and feel like themselves again.

By integrating medical aesthetics into my practice, I have found a beautiful balance. It allows me to use my medical knowledge in a creative and hands-on way, providing immediate and tangible results for my clients. This work not only complements my role as a GP but also brings me immense joy and satisfaction. It is a reminder that medicine is not just about treating illnesses but also about enhancing quality of life and helping people feel their best.

In summary, my journey from a full-time GP to incorporating medical aesthetics has been driven by a desire to live a happy, stress-free life while continuing to help others. I have learned that aesthetic treatments can play a significant role in improving self-esteem and confidence, making them a valuable addition to my practice. Life is indeed for living, and finding joy in what we do every day is essential.
